I'm a software engineer currently living in Germany, but at heart, I’m a proud farmer’s son. My parents raised me and my siblings through farming, and honestly, growing up, I was always amazed by them. They planted rice during the rainy season, onions during the summer, and even tried out other crops like chili and corn — basically, if it grew from the ground, they gave it a shot.
Our backyard was like a small zoo too — we had cows (at one point over 30 of them!), pigs, chickens, ducks... you name it. The best part? We always had fresh food whenever we craved adobo or tinola. They even gave raising quails a shot — because why not?
Following in their footsteps a little, I once rented a small calamansi farm myself. It was such a cool experience — not only did I learn a lot, but I also got to help out the workers there. Plus, it was nice to get my hands dirty for a change instead of just typing all day.
When I eventually head back to the Philippines, my plan is to continue farming. Hopefully, I can shift from software engineer to full-time farmer and finally live that off-the-grid dream. From fixing bugs in code to fixing bugs in the soil — sounds like a pretty sweet upgrade to me!
